A vacancy has arisen for the on the Audit, Finance and Risk Committee for the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) and the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AUASB). 

The AASB & AUASB are seeking an outstanding person, who can provide sound judgement and stewardship of the Committee, demonstrate extensive financial expertise, industry leadership and will have community standing as an experienced governance officer.

About the AASB & AUASB

The AASB and the AUASB are Australian Government agencies under the Australian Securities and Investments Commission Act 2001.  

The outcome of the AASB is developing, issuing and maintaining principles-based Australian accounting and external reporting standards and guidance that meet user needs and enhance external reporting consistency and quality.

The AUASB outcome is developing, issuing and maintaining in the public interest, high quality Australian auditing and assurance standards and guidance that meet user needs and enhance audit and assurance consistency and quality

About the Committee

The Audit and Risk Committee’s (the Committee) role is to provide independent advice and assistance to the AASB/AUASB Chairs on the AASB/AUASB financial and performance reporting responsibilities, risk oversight and management, and system of internal control.  The Committee meets approximately four times a year.

Desired Skills and Attributes

We are seeking to appoint a highly experienced financial professional with proven governance experience. You will have a degree in a relevant discipline and have significant executive and governance experience in managing a complex portfolio of businesses and/or assets.

Essential Skills and Attributes

Members of the Audit Finance and Risk Committee should have the following skills and attributes:

• Strong understanding and awareness of Independence
• Ideally be Independent of any current Commonwealth Government or Agency employment
• Knowledge of the PGPA Act is highly desirable
• Previously served on an Audit, Finance and Risk Committee or similar;
• The capacity to anticipate, identify and mitigate both strategic and operational risks;
• A strong grasp of governance principles developed within industry;
• The ability to further develop, model and champion a culture of risk awareness and management;
• Demonstrated leadership with the ability to inform and brief fellow Committee members on current organisational matters and strategies and the ability to lead constructive and timely discussion and debate, drawing on the expertise of the members;
