The current Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AUASB) Chair, Mr Bill Edge, has been appointed as a member of the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB).
As the AUASB’s legislative mandate includes participating and contributing to the development of a single set of auditing standards, and we are required to use auditing standards issued by the IAASB as a base from which to develop local Auditing and Assurance standards, it is important that we can influence international standards to achieve public interest outcomes and serve as the most effective base possible for Australian standards. Bill’s appointment to the IAASB reflects the strong role our region plays contributing to the global auditing standard process. And the current IAASB work program includes many important topics, such as Fraud, Going Concern and Assurance on the reporting on Non-Financial Information, that have great interest at both a local and global level.
“I look forward to serving as a member of the IAASB, continuing to represent Australia’s interests and build on the contributions my predecessors Roger Simnett and Merran Kelsall have made in this role”, Mr Edge said.
Bill’s appointment is for a period of three years commencing on 1 January 2022 and coincides with the retirement from the IAASB of former AUASB Chair, Professor Roger Simnett.
