On behalf of the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AUASB) we extend our congratulations to former AUASB Chair Merran Kelsall AO on her appointment as an Officer of the Order of Australia in the recent 2023 Australia Day Honours List. Ms Kelsall has been recognised due to her distinguished service to the financial accounting sector, to professional organisations and to the community.
Ms Kelsall was the inaugural Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the AUASB when it was first formed as an independent, non-corporate Commonwealth entity of the Australian Government in 2004. She continued in this role until 2017, also serving a member of the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) and Financial Reporting Council (FRC) at different times over this period. Ms Kelsall continues to serve the accounting profession as the current President and Chair of CPA Australia.
Merran’s Officer of the Order of Australia honour is great recognition of her contribution to the AUASB, the governance and leadership of the auditing and accounting profession, as well as the many other roles she has had in business and the community.
