Justin Lachal appointed to new National Director role
The Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) and the Australian Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AUASB) are pleased to announce the appointment of Justin Lachal to the role of National Director, supporting both the AASB and the AUASB.
The newly created National Director role is part of the Boards’ move to a shared support model, where both Boards are supported by a fully combined administrative staff. The National Director will take over responsibility for executive functions and staff management, allowing the Board Chairs to focus their efforts on developing standards and guidance and representing Australia’s interests in the international standard setting arena.
Justin joins the AASB/AUASB from ANZ Bank, where he has held a number of roles, most recently as Senior Finance Business Partner in Institutional Banking. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand, holds Masters Degrees in both Information Technology and Finance, and a Master of Business Administration from Melbourne University Business School. Justin brings extensive experience in business management and team leadership and a track record in implementing strategy in a complex environment.
Justin’s appointment comes at an exciting time for the Boards, and is part of a broader strategy to ensure that Australia remains at the forefront of international accounting and auditing practice. Technological advances, the rise in importance of non-financial reporting, and stakeholder demands for clearer and more frequent information, all pose potentially significant challenges. The National Director will lead changes to make the Boards more agile and responsive to these challenges.
